Slovenia – country to put on the list in 2019
Small country in the middle of Europe with high mountains, wild rivers and access to Mediterranean Sea. Beside it’s size Slovenia has all for outdoor lovers. Let’s take a look at the most famous area called Triglavski National Park, home of Bled lake, turquoise Soca river and Tiglav – Slovenia’s highest peak.
Lake Bled
One of the most beautiful lakes I ever seen is topped with a church from 17th century built on an island in the middle of the lake. You can take a boat ride to get there or swim. It refreshes you in the hot summer days. We have choosen the second option and while reaching the island it was like to step into a fairytale. That’s why lake Bled is the most frequently visited place in Slovenia.
When traveling around the Bled don’t miss views from surrounding hills. There is plenty of tourist paths so park you car at one of the car parks and go around the lake on your own. On the North take uphill to the castle called Blejski grad. Beside awesome views of the lake you can try some local specialities and refresh yourself before hitting the path again. Another viewpoint with 360 panoramic view on the Bled as well as Triglav can be found in the west part of the lake. The peak is called Velika Osojnica, It’s harder to get there but worth the climb.
Travel tip: stay in the Guesthouse and Restaurant Kunstelj, family owned hotel and restaurant offering local cuisine
Vintgar Gorge
In the beginning of May every year Vintgar gorge opens for first tourists. The path takes you over wooden bridges on the 1,6km long journey through the verticals rocks in close proximity to the Radovna river ending with bridge overlooking famous Sum waterfall.
The whole journey takes about one hour and in the summer months it is crowded with tourist. So wake up early to see this natural beauty alone
Soca river
In the spring when snow and ice is melting it is the right time for all outdoor and water sports lovers. Take a kayak or raft and take a ride down the river toward rapids. Is it too much of adrenaline for you? So take a trail to the source of the Soca river or take a journey downstream, walk old wooden bridges hanging dozens meters above the river . It’s an experience walking by without solid ground under you!
Triglav peak
In the close proximity to the Bled lake you can find start of the 7 hours trail to the top. This trail is the easiest way to reach Triglav peak but that doesn’t mean it is easy walk uphill. As the peak is pretty high (2864 m) it is serious climb you should be prepare for. Check the weather in the morning before climb, take plenty of water in the summer and outdoor equipment for waking on the snow and ice when going in spring or late fall.

Where to stay in Triglavski National Park?
I am using Booking.com for the accommodation and I was staying at the Guesthouse and Restaurant Kunstelj twice while in the area. There is plenty accommodation in close proximity to the national park. In general, standard price for a 1 night at nice B&B Geusthouse for two people is around 100 USD.
Flying into the country? Rent a car!
For the car rental use Rentalcars.com where all the major rental companies offering their cars for great prices. I am not listing any price as Slovenia is a country to visit all year round.
How to get there?
If it is possible, take your own car as you will be more flexible and you don’t need renting one. If you are flying in for comparing flight prices I am using Kayak.com mostly.
